...and buy fuck all. Today is Buy Nothing Day, where we give the middle finger to consumerism and chose to not fund their capitalist ways (independent/local stores and markets are exempt).

It's an interest idea in an interesting economic climate. I don't see it killing off any massive retailers or making much of a dent in any fat cat's monetary fund but a first step it is. And when you hear stories that a worker gets trampled to death and a woman miscarries during Black Friday's sale you do wonder if our love affair with the retail sector has gone too far. So today I plan to buy nothing at all and I hope you do the same.

Yet again the kids are outsmarting the adults thanks to the technology monster. This time it's homework excuses as the kids are using increasingly complicated (and occasionally bloody absurd) tech-related lingo in order to baffle their teachers.

These 'tech-scuses' come in various forms. From the bogstandard and popular 'my printer broke,' 'the computer crashed,' 'my internet's down etc.' to the bloody stupid: 'My dad's computer was hacked by the Russians and they stole my homework.' O RLY?

These kids really are missing the point. Admittedly these typical blames on technology is hard to challenge by teachers but I've been raised a computer geek but I can't help feel disappointed with the lack of serious deviations from the norm in the art of homework excuses.

Typical ones I have used (and have worked):
- My computer is having issues with finding a DNS Address so I've had no internet connection
- Due to a lack of networking in my house I tried to create an Ad-Hoc network between my PC and my Printer which cause serious problems (this is actually complete jargon, but I assure you someone did buy it).
- We had to shut off our internet due to our neighbour hacking our WEP Password.
Finally my all time favourite:
- My printer is networked to my router via Ethernet but the DNS Server was down due to a failure on my ISPs part, thus my whole home network ceased to function, which is why I couldn't print out the homework.

The bottom line is, ramble about stuff your teacher is NEVER going to have heard of unless of course they are a competent IT Teacher (not bloody likely). And as a final note for thought, if you're ever need to buy some time in emailing an assignment go to File Destructor which will kindly let you name and then download your own corrupt file to send to a teacher. Or do what I do and save it in Pages format. Gets them every time.

Let's Trust Cameron For He Is Round

According to today's Indy, Cameron has an edge over Brown because the he has an honest face. Research from the University of Kent claimed they are more trustworthy of those who have "a fuller face shape, feminine features such as a soft jawline and bright, round eyes. Softer eyebrows, a refined nose and a large mouth with thin lips were preferred."

I can't help but think the consensus is "the more womanly you look, the more trustworthy you are." I don't find David Cameron attractive in the slightest (though it's obvious every woman would prefer him to Brown) but I will agree he has more a "friendly face" than most politicians, even if his hair is a throwback from the 80's.

I feel today's segment is just further proof that image is fast becoming as important as policies when casting your vote. In an increasingly sexed-up society and those craving a "political Hollywood" politicians must understand we won't listen to you if your face reminds us of an overdried prune.

Please call me Ivana. I've lived in Bristol, England all my life although I've visited a fair bit of Europe as well as America, Canada, China and Japan. I'm state school educated which is shown by my common accent and loud mouth, I was bought my first laptop aged six (Pentium I, 133MHz), and currently use a white Penryn Macbook. I'm never without my iPod Touch (2G) and Nokia E51.

I developed an interest in politics after watching Have I Got News For You every week and not understanding any of it. I consider myself left-centre and align myself mostly with the Liberal Democrats, though tactically I would not vote for them. My newspaper of choice is The Independent and occasionally The Guardian. My main political concerns are civil liberties & privacy, equality for women, the environment and scrapping tuition fees.

Ironikunt (ironic cunt) is my third blog where I hope to be a little more anonymous and opinionated. I have a very lighthearted opinion to a lot of very serious topics so please don't delve too deep into what I say. Though this blog is somewhat political I do not define it as a solely political blog. I will occasionally ramble into the more neutral realms of fashion, music and internet media, if this bores you then suck it up.
